Trying something new...

I've just finished a two painting project inspired by my hairdresser. Yup - he's amazing and he's also one of the best drag queens in Spokane! In fact, he was last seasons (2024-2025) Empress of the Imperial Sovereign Court of Spokane. By day, he's a passionate advocate of the LGBTQIA+ community and fabulous hair artist. By night she's Crystal Marché - a spectacular diva who entrances her audiences with her stunning gowns, perfect makeup, fabulous hair, and emotional performances.

I've been going to Chris/Crystal to get my hair done for quite a few years now. We've talked about so many things - but one subject in particular that he's passionate about is the history of drag in Spokane. He's worked tirelessly to create a curated remembrance project that shares this history with the rest of the community.

I have so much respect and love for this human that I just had to create these pieces in his honor.

'Empress in Yellow' by Katie P Garner is a 12 x 24 acrylic on canvas painting of Crystal Marché. In this painting Crystal is singing to a crowd at the Garland Pride Events in 2025. She was that years Empress of the Imperial Sovereign Court of Spokane and helped to put on many drag events in the community.
